Kristofer J. Petersen-Overton

Kristofer J. Petersen-Overton is the co-founder of Brook Farm Institute. As a scholar, he works at the intersection of political theory, atrocity studies, and structural injustice. His writing has appeared in The Journal of Social Philosophy, Cultural Critique, Social Text, Contemporary Political Theory, Arab Studies Quarterly, The Guardian, The Brooklyn Rail, and other publications. He received his PhD in Political Science (Political Theory) from the CUNY Graduate Center in 2017 and is currently writing a book on the concept of atrocity in Western political thought.

Kris has worked with the Palestinian Center for Human Rights in Gaza and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in London. He co-authored Karl Marx and the League of the Just, a Reacting to the Past role-playing game in development for college instruction, and co-translated LEX ICON by Salette Tavares (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2024). He is currently translating essays on colonialism by Eduardo Lourenço.

He has taught at Babson College, Suffolk University, Montana Tech, Lehman College, and Brooklyn College. He is an editor at Sputnik & Fizzle, a small press publishing work by artists, scholars, and activists.
